Call for Minisymposia Proposals
| Minisymposia submissions have now closed. |
WCCM/APCOM 2010, the joint 9th World Congress on Computational Mechanics and the 4th Asian Pacific Congress on Computational Mechanics will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Sydney, Australia, during 19-23 July 2010.
The success of WCCM/APCOM 2010 will be strongly influenced by the program of minisymposia. With this call all individuals active in the field of computational mechanics are invited to contribute to the program by proposing a minisymposium.
General Criteria
Sessions generally cover a wide range of subject areas aligned with the congress themes:
- Computational Mathematics
- Computational Bio-sciences
- Computational Material Sciences
- Computational Engineering
- High Performance Computing in Mechanics and Applied Mathematics
Past congress subject areas have included:
- Computational solid and structural mechanics
- Computational fluid mechanics
- Computational materials science
- Computational biomechanics
- Computational nanotechnology
- Computational MEMS and bio-MEMS
- Computational engineering sciences and physics
- Computational nonlinear dynamics
- Computational adaptive materials systems, structures and smart materials
- Computational advances in composite machining
- Computational geomechanics
- Computational inverse problems and optimization
- Computational environmental science
- Computer simulation of processes and manufacturing
- Computational damage mechanics
- Computational dynamic failure and fracture
- Computational ice mechanics

- CAD, CAM and CAE
- Scientific visualization
- Data and signal processing
- Parallel computing
- Artificial intelligence and expert systems
- Meshless and wavelet methods
- Multiple-scale physics and computation
By submitting a proposal, the Scientific Committee is under the assumption that each speaker has been contacted and has agreed to present should the session be accepted, regardless of the date/time scheduled.
The standard audio visual equipment that is provided for each session is as follows: Data projector, laser pointer, lectern and microphone. All speakers may be required to upload their presentation(s) to the networked server in the Speaker Ready Room. Further information and instructions will be provided in advance of the meeting.
Minisymposia
Minisymposia should be clearly different from a general presentation session, in that they should have an integrative nature and include new data and ideas on a topic of general interest. Note that only minisymposia which meet the formal requirements shall be considered.
Minisymposia proposers will be the chair of the minisymposium. The co-chair will be nominated by the Scientific Committee. The duration of each minisymposium is 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the number of speakers in the session. There should be no more than eight speakers in each session, so that there is sufficient time for a short introduction by the chairperson, questions from the participants and a final discussion. Multiple sessions can be organised under a single topic should the number of speakers exceed eight. One in every five speakers may be nominated as a key note speaker.
Organisers of minisymposia are encouraged to have participants write full length papers for publication in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (
www.iop.org/EJ/journal/mse).
Financial support for the congress is limited and no specific support will be provided by the congress to minisymposium participants, and their congress registration fee is not waived. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to request minisymposia chairs of accepted sessions to select a different speaker if the original scheduled speaker has been asked to present at a number of minisymposia or if there are other issues of considerations as to the overall content of the program. In some cases, where similar minisymposia have been proposed, the Scientific Committee will discuss with the minisymposia proposers to merge the two minisymposia or arrive at an alternative topic for the minisymposium. It is important that those speakers that have been confirmed for an accepted session be present in the minisymposium and deliver the presentation.
