Abstract Submission Guidelines

Submit Abstract

The Scientific Program Committee invites you to submit abstracts of original research for presentation at the Congress. All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee.

General Information

  • Original abstract must be submitted by 15 December 2009.
  • Obtain consent from co-authors prior to submission.
  • Only abstracts submitted in English will be reviewed.
  • Restrict the word count to a maximum of 400.
  • Abstracts cannot contain scientific symbols, diagrams, photographs and/or tables.

The abstract must contain:

  • An introductory sentence indicating the purpose of the study – titled Introduction
  • A brief description of methods – titled Methods
  • A summary of new data arising from this study – titled Results
  • A conclusion and context statement – titled Conclusion
  • References critical to the abstract. Use limited reference detail (e.g. Smith, JA 1999).
  • Disclosure of conflict of interest

The abstract will appear in print as submitted.

Please note the Terms and Conditions on the abstract submission form and tick the relevant box. Your abstract will not be accepted without it.

You will automatically receive confirmation of your submission via email after you tick that you agree with the Terms and Conditions and click "continue". This will give you an “Access Key” at the bottom of the return email, should you wish to check or edit your abstract. Editing will not be possible after the closure date of 15 December 2009.

To view or edit your abstract please go to the Author's Area on the Congress Website. To view or edit your abstract please use your personal Access Key to access the Speaker Zone.

Please note that each delegate is permitted to present only ONE abstract (in addition to keynote and plenary presentations). There is a strict policy of one paper per presenter.

Abstracts will be assessed by the Scientific Program Committee using standard criteria.

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed.

Successful Authors will be notified on 30 January 2010.

All presenters of accepted abstracts will be expected to pay the congress registration fee. Abstracts will not be accepted for inclusion into the program or abstract book until the registration fee is paid.

The deadline for early bird registration is 31 March 2010.

Abstract Preference
Abstracts may be submitted as “Oral Presentation” only.

Abstract Publication
All abstracts accepted for presentation will be published in the Congress Abstract Book once the registration fee has been paid.

Audio Visual and Other Presentation Requirements
PowerPoint data projection with single screens will be the only method available in all session rooms. There will be opportunities to question presenters at the end of each session.

Disclosure / Conflict of Interest
Authors will be required to disclose any conflict of interest including affiliations with sponsoring companies within the body of their abstract. Disclosures will be included in the Congress Abstract Book. The presenting author is responsible for this information.

Confirmation of receipt of Abstract
